This project has applied to be “United Nations Ocean Decade” and Accredited Events for the Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR.

Background 

2021 to 2030 is United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, or the Ocean Decade. The ocean decade has the vision “The science we need for the ocean we want” and the mission “Transformative Ocean science solutions for sustainable development, connecting people and our ocean.”

Objectives

In response to the United Nations Ocean Decade (2021-2030), as well as celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, UNESCO Hong Kong Association, Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development and the Hong Kong Children’s Arts and Cultural Exchange Association (HKCACEA) co-organised this project to bring ocean knowledge and understanding of the marine system, marine species, marine biodiversity to Hong Kong’s young generation through a creative and engaging process. The project also raises awareness for ocean conservation in Hong Kong through fundraising, using pottery creation from participating kindergarten students.

Activities

1. Ocean Science Workshop
Date: 14 May 2022 (Chinese)/

Time Slot: 09:30 – 10:30 (Chinese)

       11:00 – 12:00 (English)

– Learn about the ocean with teaching toolkits online

2. Oceanic Theme Pottery Creation
– Create the ocean you want
– Guided by tutorial videos

3. Exhibition of Pottery Creations
Date: 8 June 2022 to 12 June 2022
Venue: Central Market 

– Kick-off on 8 June The World Ocean Day
– 5 days exhibition

– Raise awareness for ocean conservation in Hong Kong

4. Pottery Creation Auction
Date: 12 June 2022
Venue: Central Market 

Donate your pottery works for fundraising:
– Publish a booklet globally, with donated works and student information printed on the booklet
– Support UNESCO to make sustainable impact to further promote ocean awareness

– Let the world see your work on the UN Ocean Decade website!

Pottery kit including:
– Air-dry pottery clay x1
– Acrylic paints 12 pieces
– Painting brush x2
– Wooden tools set x1
– Board x1
– 10ml of varnish

Participants will be given a certificate from UNESCO HKA, HiESD and HKCACEA.
